The strong push for skateboarding to be included in the Olympics continues, as shown by this recent video pitch displayed on the International Skateboarding Federation’s (ISF) website. Although the everyday skateboarder may not be familiar with the ISF, they are skateboarding’s governing body with the goal to “to provide direction and governance for the sport of skateboarding worldwide.” While the discussion of skateboarding’s inclusion into the Olympics has been going on for a long time, that doesn’t mean everyday skaters should not be aware or have a voice in how our activity is being defined and marketed.

From the IFS’s website:
“Important changes are taking place in our organisation. Since 2008, we were designated Extreme Sports Association of Maputo-City, and we’ve been featuring Skateboarding, Bmx and Roller Blade.”
If skateboarding needs a “governing body,” and I don’t understand why it does, then shouldn’t it be Thrasher Mag? Or how about Grindline? Or shit, how about the Daggers? Or what if Gonz, Cards, Lance, and Duane formed a committee, and we declared THEM our “governing body”? Anything would be better than the shitheads who have been featuring Skateboarding, Bmx, and Roller Blade.

Just because it’s a physically demanding recreational activity does not make it a sport. Fucking is fun and physically demanding, but its not a sport. Yes, skateboarding competitions are a thing, but 99% of the skateboarding done in the world everyday is enjoyed sans rules and regulation. And just because some assholes show up claiming that they are the governing body of skateboarding doesn’t make it true.
Holy shit, man, one of the main reasons I love skateboarding is because it isn’t an organized sport. Fuck refs, rules, and jocks. Can you imagine how puerile and homogenized skating media would become if pros had to suddenly represent themselves as role models, like current pro athletes have to? That being said, The most degenerate skater today is still a better role model than half the NFL (with the almost weekly charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, armed robbery, etc.).
Keep skateboarding out of the Olympics. Not everyone needs a committee of judges to tell them that they don’t suck.

So snowboarding is none of those things?
I think, if snowboarding is in the Olympics skateboarding has it’s place too.

If I have to, I will do anything to keep skateboarding a crime. As long as it stays away from Olympics. If I have to, I would rather give it a bad name and be the scumbag degenerate, than skateboarding being a sport in Olympics where jocks from training facilities enter. Give them such a bad image of us, so they wouldn’t want to have us themselves and leave it alone in first place.
