LOCALS: THE VINTAGE SKATEBOARD CLOTHING DEALER

Nostalgia is at an all-time high in skateboarding. Throwback graphics, swishy pants, company revivals… you name it. If there are any skate products you felt may have come and gone too soon, there’s probably already a skateboarder or company looking for a way to bring them back.

Matt from Vintage Sponsor spends his time digging thru musty thrift shops around New York and Pennsylvania in search of 90s and early 2000s grails, scooping up all sorts of stuff ranging from rare skate gear from legendary companies like Shorty’s and Alien Workshop, to throwback Polo, Nautica and Tommy pieces. He manages to make a living off finding these things for the low and flipping them via Instagram, and on top of that, he also has a select group of skaters and snowboarders he flows product to.

We took a short walk from Jenkem HQ over to Matt’s house, located on a quiet street in Ridgewood, Queens. He filled us in on how Vintage Sponsor came about and we showed off some of the rarer finds he’s come across. Later, he drove us up to The Bronx to show us his day-to-day and some of the spots where he comes up on these gems.
