Ahead of the impending end to the PSW™ (Prime Skate Weather) we’ve experienced late into the year on the East Coast, we’re happy to bring you something special from the Theories of Atlantis crew. They left their Big Apple HQ to spend a couple of days out in Chicago (a.k.a. The Windy City or The Land of Inferior Pizza) and came back with this edit for us to share with you all.
In case you’re not familiar with TOA, it’s a brand and distribution company started by Josh Stewart that sells most of your favorite foreign brands to a skate shop near you. Theories Distro brought over some underground favorites like Polar, Palace, and Magenta to The States for the first time, and Josh has been personally involved in filming for a number of cult classic skate films, including his own Static series. We got him to preface this clip for you guys below:
For years we’ve wanted to do a filming trip out to Chicago, but it kept eluding our grasp. The idea that this massive metropolis has been all but forgotten by the skate industry at large meant that it was right up our alley. The incredible skyline and early 20th-century architecture seemed like a perfect backdrop for a Theories project. Then, a couple of years ago a skater from the Chicago scene named Brett Weinstein became part of the Theories squad and beckoned us to head out to the windy city. It finally all came together when we were able to combine efforts and launch a joint filming trip to work on this Theories piece while also filming for the Traffic “Look Left” video. The following edit is what resulted from this trip that was a very long time coming. Enjoy.
