The pandemic forced us get a little bit more crafty with these and we’re not mad about it.
Usually we email over the one sheet template for skaters to fill out but Brian didn’t have a printer at his house in New Jersey and we didn’t want to make him go to an office supply store to print one in the middle of a pandemic, so we took the analog route.
We printed it ourselves and mailed him a copy via good old fashioned snail mail which he filled out and eventually sent back to us. That’s just the kind of the guy BA is: good-natured, kind and will go out of his way to help you make something dope with him. It was what I imagine having a childhood pen pal is like, except they’re one of the best pro skateboarders of the last 20 years.

More than 1 million of the 11 million Uighur Muslims have been incarcerated by the Chinese government for no reason. Multiple independent, current studies show Nike shoes (e.g. Shox) are being produced in factories staffed by Uighur prisoners. Nike’s response has been a press release saying “We asked out supplier and they say they don’t do that”. Shoemaking is generally “exploitative” and those systems should be changed. You can be badly exploited without being criminalised and imprisoned on ethnic grounds, e.g. for the colour of your skin or your religion. So Nike’s actions cannot be equated to and dismissed by reference to that general problem. What Nike are doing is much worse and in direct contravention of human rights law. I love BA so much. Love that this one sheet is as raw as a look in to the man as I think we are going to get these days. He was wonderful on 9 club too. I love him. My favorite skater of all time!
