Everyone loves a good set of skater siblings, like the Delfinos or the Carrolls or the McClungs (just kidding), and Masaki and Shintaro Hongo are our new favorites.
Seeing two brothers flow so freely on a session at such a high level, sharing the excitement is genuinely inspiring, and if you’ve never gotten a glimpse of their skating before, do we have a treat for you.
We had our friend Rob Taro, the mastermind and lensman behind the Time Scan videos from Japan, follow these boys and their crew around as they moved into their new skate house in Yokosuka.
Both Masaki and Shintaro strike us as very focused and driven skaters with strong backing and support from good mentors. Masaki has been riding for SK8MAFIA, and Shintaro just dropped a new WKND part.
Watch the brothers make their local park look like a joke and show us their secret jungle hideout.

I’m only 1/4 Japanese but never been more proud the past few years seeing the skate scene and skaters arising from Japan especially after the Olympics with multiple Japanese skaters on the podium even taking home some Gold my grandma just left Chicago for good and went back to live in Kagoshima permanently so hopefully soon I’ll finally get my first trip to see where my mom and Aunt grew up anyone know if there is any skating off the mainland on an island that far south?

04-08 I skated that park on the daily. Looks as though they updated some of the park including the bowl by adding some coping! Some great memories and so happy to see the Japanese skaters getting the recognition they deserve. I always respected the hell out of the pride the Japanese took in making their tricks look stylish, not even just tricks but even the fundamentals such as pushing had to be done with style.
