LIFE AFTER SKATING: THE COUPLE BEHIND BUDDIES COFFEE IN NY

Ah, coffee… I personally don’t bother with the stuff unless I need the human equivalent of Drano, but according to Google, 73% of Americans enjoy it on a daily basis. The more shocking statistic they made a point of noting is that only 66% of Americans drink water daily. I’m no physician, but if you drink more coffee than you do water, chances are you might run into some problems.

True or not though, these stats are in no way a problem for Taylor Nawrocki, former pro skater and owner of Buddies, a coffee spot in Williamsburg. Nestled conveniently next to Supreme on Grand Street, Taylor, and his girlfriend Rachel started Buddies three years ago with only a few 5 LB bags of coffee and have now leveled up to moving over 150 LBS a week. At some point, every pro skater is faced with the age-old question of, “What’s next?” And for Taylor, coffee was a chance he was willing to take.

Being that Jenk HQ isn’t too far, we stopped in one day and the coffee drinkers in the crew were impressed. A week later we linked up with the duo in Brooklyn to get the behind-the-scenes on how their new endeavor is shaping up.

Love his skating and would love to see another part some day, but just as happy for him he had the rare presence of mind to think ahead and take care of business. Not being a “sponsored” skater anymore does’t mean you don’t skate anymore; just means you don’t depend on it for a living, which is usually a good thing. Kudos Taylor!
