In 2021, our friend and former pro skater Karl Watson introduced us to Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist with an accomplished academic background who exploded in popularity through his podcast, where he breaks down complex science topics in a digestible way.
If you’ve tuned in before, you may have also heard about Andrew’s skateboarding past. Growing up around the ‘90s Embarcadero heyday, he brushed shoulders with many SF legends and even wrote a music column for Thrasher back in the day.
Since then, he’s become known in the podcast world as the go-to neuroscientist for breaking down health and wellness topics—both on his own Huberman Lab and on other shows. And, as anyone who’s gained a large following on the internet knows, it doesn’t come without controversy.
We’ve really only seen Andrew from the waist up, in controlled podcast studios over the years. As followers of his work, we were curious to see him in a more casual setting—something less structured—to get a sense of the guy we hear so much about but rarely get to interact with in a personal way.
After a couple of texts, Andrew invited us over to his home in LA, where we were welcome to attempt his sauna and cold plunge, check out his old mags, and maybe even learn a skill or two along the way. Hopefully this piece gives you a bit more of an intimate look into his world.

I’ve been waiting for this video for so long! I heard Dr. Huberman talk in a podcast about your visit to his place… Nice to get a glimpse into part of his personal life and especially the old footage of his skating (nice fakie impossible!). Keep up the good work! Best regards from Funky Basqueland.

It’s an open secret that his research is a joke in the community. Unfortunately, his very rich dad has long-established connections at Stanford, enough to give Andrew his own lab. Nepotism at its finest.
