In 2021, our friend and former pro skater Karl Watson introduced us to Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist with an accomplished academic background who exploded in popularity through his podcast, where he breaks down complex science topics in a digestible way.
If you’ve tuned in before, you may have also heard about Andrew’s skateboarding past. Growing up around the ‘90s Embarcadero heyday, he brushed shoulders with many SF legends and even wrote a music column for Thrasher back in the day.
Since then, he’s become known in the podcast world as the go-to neuroscientist for breaking down health and wellness topics—both on his own Huberman Lab and on other shows. And, as anyone who’s gained a large following on the internet knows, it doesn’t come without controversy.
We’ve really only seen Andrew from the waist up, in controlled podcast studios over the years. As followers of his work, we were curious to see him in a more casual setting—something less structured—to get a sense of the guy we hear so much about but rarely get to interact with in a personal way.
After a couple of texts, Andrew invited us over to his home in LA, where we were welcome to attempt his sauna and cold plunge, check out his old mags, and maybe even learn a skill or two along the way. Hopefully this piece gives you a bit more of an intimate look into his world.

digestible and delectable!! also, never underestimate how a 20 min “ice bath” helps sprained ankles, bruises and injured body parts. it somehow resets the body’s reponse, which is obviously regulated by the brain. i’ve used the 20 min “ice rule” ever since i was 15 at skate camp. tony hawk’s trainer/friend iced my ankle and i was able to still skate that week. barry zaritsky?! before that i was out for 6 months when i sprained an ankle and did nothing. like when u decide u want to be a pro skater, and every decision u make after that counts. whether or not to skate, party or act reckless. but ur brain remembers, builds those neuro lines and then ur dreams can probably come true, with the right attitude. i believe it’s possible. every decision u make today or tomorrow affects that brain chemistry.
